Common refrigerator problems we see

Not cooling

The food is warm. Causes include dirty condenser coils, a failed condenser or evaporator fan, a defrost system fault, or a compressor-area problem.

Freezer works, fridge is warm

Cold air isn't reaching the fresh-food side. An evaporator fan, damper, or frost blocking the airflow is a typical cause.

Too cold or freezing the food

A bad temperature sensor, damper or control board can overcool the fresh-food compartment.

Leaking water

Water inside or on the floor often comes from a clogged defrost drain, a loose water line, or a failed inlet valve.

Frost buildup

Heavy frost in the freezer usually means the defrost system isn't working. A heater, thermostat or control board may have failed.

Loud, buzzing or constantly running

A noisy evaporator or condenser fan, or a unit that never shuts off, is worth checking before it fails.

Ice maker or water dispenser not working

No ice, small cubes, a jammed ice maker, or a dispenser that won't pour.

What we check on a refrigerator visit

  • Condenser coils and the condenser fan
  • Evaporator fan, damper and airflow between freezer and fridge
  • The defrost system: heater, defrost thermostat and control
  • Temperature sensors and the main control board
  • Start components and compressor operation
  • Door gaskets and door alignment
  • Water inlet valve, filter, water lines and defrost drain
  • Ice maker assembly

Brands we repair

We repair refrigerators and freezers from most common household brands, including Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, Samsung, LG, Frigidaire and Kenmore. For built-in or specialty models, give us the brand and model number when you book and we'll tell you whether we can help.

Write the brand and model number in the request form, or tell us when you call. The model number is usually on a label inside the door, lid or frame, or on the back of the unit.

How the $95 diagnosis works for a refrigerator

After we confirm a 2-hour arrival window, the technician measures temperatures, checks the fans, defrost system and sealed components, and explains what failed. You get a repair price before anything is done, and the $95 diagnosis is applied toward the repair if you approve it. If we have the part we can often complete the repair that visit; if not we order it and return.

While you wait for the visit

  • Keep the doors closed. An unopened refrigerator keeps food safe for about four hours without power; a full, closed freezer holds longer.
  • Food safety guidance is to keep the refrigerator at 40°F or below and the freezer at 0°F.
  • With the unit unplugged, vacuum dust from the condenser coils if you can reach them. Dirty coils make the system work harder.
  • Don't overpack the fresh-food side. Airflow vents need room to move cold air around.

Repair or replace?

Refrigerators are expensive to replace, and a lot of problems are fixable, such as fans, defrost parts, sensors and door gaskets. When a repair doesn't make sense, for example on a very old unit, we'll tell you so you don't spend money you don't need to.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my fridge warm but my freezer cold?

That usually means cold air isn't getting from the freezer to the fresh-food side. A failed evaporator fan, a stuck damper, or frost blocking the vents are common causes.

Why is water leaking inside or under my refrigerator?

A clogged defrost drain is a frequent cause, as are water line or inlet valve problems on models with an ice maker or dispenser.

Do you repair ice makers and water dispensers?

Yes. Ice maker and dispenser problems are part of refrigerator repair, so we check them on the same visit.

How soon should I call if my refrigerator stops cooling?

As soon as you notice. Keep the doors closed to hold the cold, and call or text us at (480) 861-1104 so we can find you an appointment window.
